Blog Post-Ella: One of the favourite travel destinations in Sri Lanka
Why Ella is important for the tourists: please read below
Ella is surrounded by many mountains and hills covered with cloud forests and tea plantations. The town has a cooler climate than surrounding lowlands in Sri Lanka due to its elevation of 1000m above the mean sea level.
Ella
Astonishingly beautiful town Ella, is famous for hiking, trekking and whitewater rafting (at Kitulgala). Ravana Zipline, Ravana Waterfall, Ravana Swing, 9 arch bridge, Tea plantations/Tea Factory and caves are must visit places in Ella. Sri Pada Mountain, Bandarawela Asapuva are the other famous places to visit. If you would like to participate in meditation or retreat programmes you should contact us for details and availability of places. Among them Bandarawela Asapuva offers a calm and quiet atmosphere for healing your mind since it is on top of an another the Mountain in the area. On top of the Sri Pada Mountain there is a special Temple at which you can see the foot print of Lord Buddha which was printed there more than 2500 years ago. The Buddhists consider this temple is a special one because of the wholly spiritual atmosphere on top of the mountain. The temple is looked after by God Saman and God Indraka. To reach to the top of the Mountain (Samanala Mountain) is one of the best trekking journeys for your life and it is a memorable place for you to be remembered and a best place on the Earth for you to to make your biggest wish. The temple top however is very busy with so many devotees from around the world and from Sri Lanka. The best and ideal time to visit there is during December to May. During the rainy seasons it is closed, though you can go there. By offering Dana (Food for the Monks) you can collect lot of merits to be born in the heaven in the next life after your death. However, for meditation it is advisable to select Bandarawela Asapuva as it is more appealing and calm without much chanting noise.
These iconic destinations are essential for the tourists because these are must visit places in the region with unique blend of natural beauty, colonial history (except Sri Pada Temple), and outdoor adventures. Tea lovers can explore the region’s famous tea estates, such as Pedro Tea Factory, from where they can learn about the tea-powder (leaves) production processes. The tea powder production process is very complicated, thermosensitive process within the factory floors because, a little change or wrong temperature control can, not only lose the whole flavour of tea bags but also leads to complete financial losses. The drying, packeting, packaging and Flavouring tests are the most important methods involved with the tea-production. When you visit the tea factory you can speak to tea testers, chemists in the quality control dept and Engineers.
For those who are seeking cultural experiences, the Seetha Amman Temple, tied to the legend of the Ramayana, offers a glimpse into Sri Lanka’s rich mythology. Whether it’s for relaxation, adventure, or cultural exploration.
Nuwara Eliya:
Nuwara Eliya is also known as Little England of Sri Lanka resembling with its British colonial history, hill clubs, golf clubs, and Victorian architecture with a racecourse for bet lovers (Please check the time of horse races before you go there) .
The beautiful town Nuwara Eliya as I mentioned earlier, in the Central Highlands is attractive because of its cool climate with green tea plantations, organic vegetable and stunning landscapes.
Nuwara Eliya provides an unforgettable experience that captures the essence of Sri Lanka’s highland charm and beauty. When the average maximum temperature is 22 °C in April, the average minimum temperature is
around 9 °C in January. Hence, the best time to visit Sri Lanka is from January to April. However most tourists prefer February to April (10°C to 20°C). The temperature at Nuwara Eliya falls below the 0°C very occasionally.
Though the temperature at Nuwara Eliya, is slightly lower than that of Ella, many tourists love the iconic places to visit in Nuwara Eliya. This city is also the administrative capital of Nuwara Eliya District and the town is much bigger than that of Ella. There are many routes to enter the town of Nuwara Eliya. The earning resources for the residents in Nuwara Eliya district are obviously the tea plantations, paddy fields and vegetations. Apart from that livestock farming and milk production is also famous along with an Ambewela Milk processing factory in the area.
